Prepare For Your Descent
Plan Your Visit
Everything you need to know before stepping into the depths of Salina Turda.
1 Essential Travel Tips
Layer Up
Temperatures inside the mine stay around 11–12°C (52–54°F), so bring a fleece, sweater, or light jacket even during summer. Comfortable shoes with good grip are also recommended.
Plan Your Time
Allow at least 2–3 hours for a comfortable visit. This gives you time to explore the main galleries, take in the underground scenery, and enjoy the attractions without rushing.
Main Entrance
The modern main entrance is located at Aleea Durgăului 7. This is the primary entrance for visitors and provides access to the mine and nearby parking.
2 Driving & Transit
Driving Route
From Cluj-Napoca, follow DN1 / E60 toward Turda and continue toward Aleea Durgăului 7. Paid parking is available near the main entrance.
Public Transport
Intercity buses connect Turda with nearby cities. From Turda, continue to Salina Turda by local transport or taxi. Local transport also serves the area around the mine.
Parking
Parking is available near the main entrance and is ticketed separately. Check the current parking fee before your visit.
3 Accessibility & Getting Around
Elevators & Stairs
Visitors can move between underground levels using stairs or panoramic elevators. Elevator use is optional, and healthy walkers can navigate the 13-story wooden staircase.
Wheelchair Access
Accessibility is limited to certain areas. Visitors with neuromotor disabilities should use the older entrance at Strada Salinelor 54B. Note that salt-dusted floors can be slick.
Take Care on Stairs
Some galleries and shafts include stairways. Take your time, especially when moving between levels, and follow the marked visitor routes and instructions from mine staff.
Good to Know
Food consumption and bringing pets into the mine are not permitted.
Keep your ticket accessible throughout your visit. Online tickets can help make your arrival easier.
Expect zero cellular reception underground. Download tickets, maps, or rideshare apps before you descend.
Everything within walking distance
All attractions are located within the historic Salina Turda Salt Mine complex. Enjoy a pleasant walk through centuries of Romanian history without ever leaving the hill.

No, digital tickets on your phone are accepted. Show the barcode/QR code from your confirmation email on your smartphone at each entrance.
Entrance Requirement: Guests using wheelchairs or facing significant mobility challenges should enter strictly through the historic entrance located at 54B Salinelor Street. The primary Durgău entrance requires climbing down stairs right at the start.
Reachable Sections: The flat Franz Josef Tunnel is fully navigable for wheelchairs, along with the surrounding heritage rooms such as the Crivac Room, Extraction Well, and the upper overlook above the Joseph Mine.
Elevator & Deep Mine Restrictions: While a panoramic lift drops into the lower Rudolf Cavern, reaching the elevator itself requires walking up and down a few stair steps. Because of these structural steps, the lower recreation floor and the Terezia underground lake are not barrier-free for standard wheelchair reliance.
Ground Conditions: Expect mostly flat, packed salt paths throughout the upper gallery, though occasional dampness or subtle floor bumps can occur.
